ӰƵ CEO Honored with IAIS Distinguished Fellows Award
On Dec. 5, the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) presented ӰƵ (ӰƵ) CEO Gary D. Anderson with its Distinguished Fellows award during the 2024 IAIS Committee Meetings, Annual General Meeting, and Annual Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
The award recognized Anderson’s substantial involvement in IAIS activities and outstanding service during his time as commissioner of the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, including chairing the IAIS Policy Development Committee and serving as a member of the Insurance Capital Standard and Comparability Task Force and vice chair of the Executive Committee.
“Gary has long championed our state-based system of insurance regulation at home and abroad through a variety of roles that have focused on protecting consumers, promoting close collaboration among our colleagues, and ensuring a healthy, competitive market and industry,” said ӰƵ President and Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Andrew N. Mais. “On behalf of the ӰƵ’s Members, I congratulate Gary on receiving this well-deserved honor, and I thank him for his continuing hard work in service of state insurance regulation and consumers.”
Anderson was named ӰƵ CEO in March 2024 and assumed his duties on May 1, 2024. As CEO, he oversees all aspects of the ӰƵ’s operations. He also represents the views of the ӰƵ membership and advocates for the state-based insurance regulatory system with stakeholders.
Vicky Saporta, executive director of the Markets Directorate at the Bank of England and former IAIS Executive Committee chair, also received the award this year.
About the IAIS Distinguished Fellows Program
The IAIS created the Distinguished Fellows program in 2004 to honor former Member representatives for their substantial involvement in IAIS activities and outstanding service. Honorees are nominated and approved by their peers. It is a special way of paying tribute to those who have selflessly contributed their time and expertise to advance the IAIS mission.
